These osteoderms will be slightly darker out of direct bright light. This extinct tortoise was thought to be as large as the modern Galapagos Islands tortoise. It is believed to have been up to 6 feet in length & 600 lbs. Amazing! The tortoises limbs were covered in hard osteoderms used for defense. The "groove" you see around the bottom of spurs & osteoderms is where they attached to the skin. Origin - Florida Extinct Pleistocene Giant Tortoise - Hesperotestudo sp.
