Illustration of the celebrated Scottish writer, Dame Muriel Spark (1918-2006.) Born in Edinburgh to native-born Jewish converts, young Muriel was raised in the Presbyterian faith. She was married to Sidney Spark for three years, living in modern-day Zimbabwe, ultimately leaving him & her son behind & returning to Britain to work in intelligence during WWII. She began her literary career writing poetry & criticism, working briefly as editor of the 'Poetry Review.' A transformational event in her life was her conversion to Roman Catholicism in 1954, which inspired her to pursue life as a novelist. She would pen her name making 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie' & 'The Girls of Slender Means' while in London, later residing in New York for a few years, & ultimately in Tuscany with artist Penelope Jardine. She is also remembered for her novels: 'The Driver's Seat' & 'Loitering with Intent,' both short-listed for the Booker Prize. Museum-quality posters made on thick & durable matte paper.
