Description

This charming & colorful mid century painting has a fresh vibrant energy that pops off the wall. The artist, Jose Ma De Servin (1917 - 1983) was recognized early in his career for cubist works. He worked with Orozco & other Mexican muralists during his formative years. His paintings can be found in many museums in Latin America & the US. It has been written that the sweetness that characterized his work is a melancholy & placid one & that while he worked in the modern, semi cubist style, he adapted it to an anecdotal, folk-art approach that was distinctly his own. This painting depicts a pair of fruit vendors in traditional dress under a sun that almost looks eclipsed. The colors are clear & vibrant & the style is unique. It is painted on stretched canvas & set into a wooden frame. There are some small condition issues which can best be observed in the photos, particularly the last five in the listing. There is a smudge on the fabric inset of the frame, there are a few light scratches in the paint surface & a couple of shallow dents in the canvas. The canvas is 20" High X 27 1/2" wide. Framed the work is 22" high X 30" wide. Original Painting By Mexican Artist Jose Maria De Servin, Charming Image Of Fruit Vendors
