A replica of the Theotokos Axion estin ("It is truly met") icon that is housed in Karyes of Mount Athos' Church of the Protaton (the First). Because it includes the seals of all 20 Athonite Monasteries, it is referred to as "the common household protectorress" of the Athonite Monasteries. On June 10th, 982 AD, this icon was present during the Sunday Orthros ceremony, which was led by the Archangel Gabriel, a cell from Pantokrator Monastery, & a helping monk of the Dormition of the Theotokos. The phrase "It is truly suitable" was added by the Archangel to the opening of the hymn "More honorable than the cherubim."Every year, the procession held on the Monday following Pascha is accompanied by the "Mother of God Karyotissa," who is dressed according to the strictest standards of Byzantine art inside a casket of gold & silver.
