Description
This is an early example of a patterned glass window pane from the late 1800's. It has beveled edges & is leaded, weighing over one pound. A process called glue chipping was used to make a random pattern. The pattern is created by applying hot animal glue to a sandblasted surface of sheet glass. As the glue dries, & contracts, it pulls flakes of glass off the surface in a random fashion. When the sheet is recoated with glue & a second chipping performed, the sandblast lines disappear entirely. These panes were removed from a window & have flea bites on edges & corners & remnants of white paint. They measures 7-1/4 x 6-3/4 inches. You will receive 1 of these really neat old glass panes.
