Mr. Hatemi's miniatures are in the classical Persian tradition of the sixteen century Herat school & are exceptional in their breathtaking attention to detail. Each individual hair of a pasha's beard may be distinguished. Mr. Hatemi paints with brushes made of cat hair-often using just a single hair & a magnifying glass. Although deeply committed to the miniature tradition Mr. Hatemi's artistic versatility is evident in his more three-dimensional, tonal works. in these, the perfectionism of a true miniaturist is masterfully combined with a realist's appreciation of color. in a quiet suburb of Lexington, Iranian-born artist Haydar Hatemi enjoys the kind of work arrangement that most artists can only dream of. Like Michelangelo & great classical painters who preceded him, Hatemi's work is funded by a rich patron - a king, no less. Hatemi has been working on commissions from the royal family of Qatar since 1997, receiving up to seven figures for larger pieces made in the classic Ottoman style, an intricate & opulent style of painting that traces back to the ancient Ottomon & Persian empires. His works - some of them more than 20 yards wide in scale - adorn palaces & other important buildings in Qatar, whose royal family has used its wealth to make Qatar an international center for the arts, accumulating & displaying some of the world's greatest art. The landscape is of Istanbul's Maiden's Tower (Kız Kulesi) (painted as if it was still Constantinople).
