ANTIQUE Zinc Spelter Statue Of~ DENIS PAPIN, France Ca 1880'S Thermodynamics physicist Inventor Of The Pressure cooker 19 th c . Antique French Spelter Statue "Denis Papin ~ Vapeur" c. 1880's DESCRIPTION: Antique spelter of Denis Papin a beautiful statue from Paris, France. The man has an overcoat & buckled shoes fitting for the 17th century. Papin, a French inventor is seated on a backless chair with legs crossed, & a book on his lap. His claim to fame, the pressure cooker is sitting beside him. On the the device is written: "Denis Papin Vapeur (translated: steam)". Spelter statue is in excellent condition with original finish. Was originally from an 1881 Ansonia Denis Papin figural statue mantel shelf clock 19" x 17" DIMENSIONS : Statue stands approx. 12" high x 12" c.1880 1881 ABOUT DENIS PAPIN: (22 August 1647 - c. 1712) was a French physicist, mathematician, & inventor, best known for his pioneering invention of the steam digester, the forerunner of the steam engine & of the pressure cooker. Papin first visited London in 1675, & worked with Robert Boyle from 1676 to 1679, publishing an account of his work in Continuation of New Experiments (1680). During this period, Papin invented the steam digester, a type of pressure cooker with a safety valve. Several of his papers were put before the Royal Society between 1707 & 1712. The last surviving evidence of Papin's whereabouts came in a letter he wrote dated 23 January 1712.
