This stunning antique Chinese wooden carving panel from the Qing Dynasty is from Yongzhou region in central China's Hunan province. Carved around the second half of the 19th century. It originally belonged to a carved wooden bed in traditional Chinese style. in the circular part of this wooden carving board, the abstract Dragon totem was carved, which is very delicate & unforgettable. The top of the circle is carved with twisted flowers & vines as well as a magpie. The lower part of the circle is also carved with flowers & vines & a lovely tame lamb. The board was made up of two layers, fixed at four corners with iron nails. The carving part is mainly on the upper panel, & the experienced artisans showed excellent wood hollow-out carving technique, accompanied by extraordinary imagination. in ancient times, wood carvings were carved as a whole after completion. The craftsman will first apply a coat of varnish on it to prevent insect frogs. & then a red primer. The final step is to paint the parts of the sculpture to be shining gilding. But as the time goes by, the majority of the gilding parts were fading away. You can think about how dazzling the whole carved bed was when it was made.
