Quite literally, if you choose to read this painting left to right, the painting carries you from late summer forests to golden cottonwoods & the first snows of the season. White birds snow geese? lift into sky over autumn waters. Ghosted within the painting is text culled from my journals. I love the way the words emerge as a sort of poetry. Often the titles of my paintings come from the poetry within, as is the case with this painting. What's a bit usual about this painting interesting is that I began it several years ago, yet it sat in my studio unfinished for several years, as I contemplated how to complete it. Then suddenly, after returning from a long road trip this spring, I inspiration came, & I completed it in just a couple of days. Dare I say it was worth the wait. Indeed, I love this painting. Recently I was talking to a friend also in their 50s about how I know so many people for whom autumn is their favorite season. It's interesting, because there are surely people for whom winter, spring, or summer is their favorite month, but those people don't voice it so much Yet people who love autumn tell you they love autumn. It seems, too that usually they are "of a certain age." (Though I think autumn has always been my favorite season, even when I was a kid.) My World is the Snow & Mountains, the Forest & Light is perfect for anyone who loves autumn, the mountains, the movements of birds, or simple this warm, soothing palette. This painting is painted on canvas; the edges/sides of the painting have been painted a flat grey, rendering a frame unnecessary/optional.
