This amazing specimen of Amethyst, also know as "Grape Agate" or "Purple Chalcedony", comes from Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. Originally thought to be Agate, this specimen of spheroidal amethystine quartz/chalcedony consists of thin radially grown "fibers" made of quartz. in spite of this spherulitic growth pattern, thin sections show that this is not agate (Laurs & Rossman, 2018).
