In addition to creating the first line of (very) high-end sportswear, the fashion house established by John Redfern, which was active from 1855 to 1940 with branches in London, Edinburgh, Paris, & New York, represented the epitome of haut couture for nearly a century, as evidence by these two exquisite prints of a Redfern day dress & evening dress from the 1880s. Handsomely framed & meticulously printed on acid-free vellum by Gargoyles Studio in Brooklyn, New York, in the 1980s, the double-matted prints measure 8.5" x 5", while the frames measure 12.75" x 9.75".
