Description
This is a wonderful 1870s to 1880s wrapper dress in lovely brown silk taffeta. The gown has a high ruffled net collar that is ruff Esq. The bodice has long sleeves that are cuffed with matching little ruffles & corded lace trim. The bodice ends just above the natural waist & flares out into the skirt which is a fuller shape that is quite to the period as it is bustled. The wrapper dress is meant to be worn at home to do household chores so this dress is not meant to be worn with the full bustle of the era. It has pickups on the sides that are supported from inside that help give the skirt its shape & volume all the way to the floor. There is also a fun bow on the front that falls down from the waist & ends at the hips with brown velvet faux buttons on the ends. The dress is unlined & fastens up the front with hooks & eyes. Condition: The dress is in overall great condition with a few things to note. There has been a fair amount of repair to the dress. Most are done with an iron adhesive but there is one under the left arm that is done by hand. It is not the best repairs but is sturdy & not the most noticeable in that location. The iron-on patches are sturdy & are small with the largest one being 1" by 2" & with the thickness of the fabric it is not too noticeable. These flaws do not take away from just how darling this dress is & it is still very wearable. Please check the measurements closely for determining fit. I do not give sizes for vintage items as women's sizes are not standardized & a majority of these dresses were homemade or specialty made to fit one person.
