Description

Let's talk about shungite. This Colombian 'shungite' is a fairly new find first seen on the market in 2022, I believe. Because it is not from Russia, it's not considered "elite shungite". I've been told it has a softer energy compared to elite shungite, metaphysically. But it shares many of the same properties as far as weight, color, sheen, high carbon content, conchoidal fractures, & fragility. Geologically it's considered a mineraloid, due to it's lack of crystal structure. Formed under intense heat & pressure, probably in the Paleoproterozoic Era, 2.2 billion years ago. This Colombian occurrence hasn't been scientifically proven as shungite yet, but it's properties point to it being shungite, so I feel comfortable calling it that. Shungite is a variety of pyrobitumen, so it's probably also correct to call this asphaltite or gilsonite. Disclaimer : I'm not a scientist, or geologist, but I do my best to research & find out what I can on the items that I sell. It's really fun for me to learn. If you want to jump down the shungite rabbit hole, be sure to use trusted sources & have an open mind. The mineral world is so vast & amazing. There is always so much to learn. Science is always showing us new stuff. Isn't that part of what keeps us so captivated? Characteristics - It's very light in weight for it's size, & has lovely shiny surfaces, cleaves, & patterning on the surface, as well as on occasion, some iridescence on some pieces. It will leave some black powder on your hands when handling, & it is somewhat fragile, so dropping = bad. But, it's beautiful! I love these pieces. One more thing, you should not put this in water or ingest it. I can't verify how clean it is, or exactly what's in it's makeup. Origin :: Colombia Dimensions :: 83 x 62 x 27 mm Weight :: 2.6 oz, or 72 grams Colombian Shungite
