The Florida Thatch Palm is a small, slender-stemmed palm tree that is native to southern Florida, the Caribbean region & Central America. It is widely grown in these regions as an ornamental plant. It is a fan palm & it has glossy, bright green leaves on long, slender stalks. The leaves are deeply divided into narrow segments with drooping leaf tips. Leaves are 2-3 feet in diameter. It usually grows up to 10-20 feet tall but it can occasionally grow up to 28 feet in height. These tall, slender specimens make wonderful garden specimens & are especially effective when they are in small groups. This species grows wild in coastal regions & is tolerant of drought & sandy soils. in Florida, it grows in the southern peninsula & in the Florida Keys. in the Keys, it is common & forms thickets & grows & as understory in the tropical forests. Small, white flowers are produced in long clusters. The flowers are followed by globose, white fruits. The fruit clusters are long & arching & are an ornamental feature of the plant. It is a reliable & easy-to-grow ornamental for tropical & warm subtropical areas. A great palm for coastal regions. Growing Instructions 1. Soak the seed in water for 24 hours. 2. The seeds like moist, well-drained soil. Prepare a mixture of half potting soil & half sand, perlite or vermiculite. Put the soil in a pot. Water the mixture so that it is moist but not wet. 3. Put the seeds on the soil. 4. Cover the seeds with a layer of soil that is 0.5 inch thick. 5. Water the seeds. 6. Place the pots in an area with warm temperatures in full sun or part shade. 7.
