The charming figures of boys & girls capture the hearts of the viewer & remind us of peaceful childhood times. The artist Berta Hummel was a Franciscan sister, born in 1909 in Germany. It was during primary school that she began making short & printed verses for family & friends from simple subjects such as flowers, birds & animals. in 1927, Berta moved to Munich & entered the Academy of Arts & Crafts. There she led the life of an artist & continued to paint. Berta's art caught Franz Goebel's attention in 1933 in the form of Christmas cards & by his thinking of turning them into three-dimensional figures. Each figure is, like Berta's own paintings, hand painted & made with care. in the 1940s, these figures became increasingly popular as they provided heartwarming scenes of happy children, something much needed during World War II. During the decade, people continued to collect the charming figurines & Sister Maria Innocentia (Berta Hummel) is famous all over the world. Cute Little Vintage Porcelain Figurine Goebel, Hummel.
