How else would I, as an Iconographer, be able to co-incarnate the Word into image? My favorite part as I write the icons is dialoguing with the saint & waiting with wonder & awe at the inevitable miracles that they will work on God's behalf in the lives of the persons who have commissioned the work of art. It's kind of like painting a family portrait, one that I know is of someone still very much alive, & when I look at my icons, I can feel them close to me. Sometimes I will mix in sand from the location where their feet trod, fibers or jewels representative of them, or even blessed water from a miraculous spring, such as with the icon of Lourdes.
