This statue of Apollo is made of clay. Apollo, byname Phoebus, in Greco-Roman mythology, a deity of manifold function & meaning, one of the most widely revered & influential of all the ancient Greek & Roman gods. Though his original nature is obscure, from the time of Homer onward he was the god of divine distance, who sent or threatened from afar; the god who made men aware of their own guilt & purified them of it; who presided over religious law & the constitutions of cities; & who communicated with mortals through prophets & oracles his knowledge of the future & the will of his father, Zeus (Roman: Jupiter). Even the gods feared him, & only his father & his mother, Leto (Roman: Latona), could easily endure his presence. He was also a god of crops & herds, primarily as a divine bulwark against wild animals & disease, as his Greek epithet Alexikakos (Averter of Evil) indicates. His forename Phoebus means "bright" or "pure," & the view became current that he was connected with the Sun. I depicted the main attributes of Apollo - the lyre, the bow & arrows. It is 3 cm wide & 8 cm high. The sculpture is made of natural clay. It is fired at a temperature of 1200 degrees. I make these statuettes to order. Therefore, they may differ minimally from those that you see in the photo. But the differences are really minimal. Handicraft makes sculptures special, unique and, as a result - art.
