Description
A Victorian Peigne Josephine steer horn back comb decorated with nine 15 mm marbled auburn wooden ball ornaments. Each ball is fixed to the steeply curved arch by a large silver nail accented by small nail heads. Two central ornaments have several remaining beads which had been arranged in a pattern of 3 top & bottom & one to each side. The other six ornaments have faint circular impressions which show they each had four nail accents. Without close inspection of the balls with remaining metal beads, you'd wonder why they were there until you saw the faint circles. Typically found ball ornament combs are made of other materials, the steer horn & wood combination is unique. You might call it a rustic peigne Josephine. The comb comes gift boxed in a bentwood box. MEASURES: 4.87" w x 4.25" h CONDITION: Some lamination missing to the back of one guard tooth. Aforementioned missing nail head accents.
