Beautiful plaster intaglio depicting the apparition scene of Our Lady of Lourdes. Made of plaster, the intaglio measures 2" diameter. These miniature relief carvings were originally made as souvenirs from what was known as the Grand Tour, a traditional right of passage for the educated in the 17th & 18th centuries. We are offering the intaglio with or without a gold edge (make selection from drop down menu). Our religious themed intaglios are custom made from molds that re-created from authentic 19th century European Grand Tour intaglios & medallions. The Marian Apparitions at Lourdes were reported in 1858 by Bernadette Soubirous, a 14-year-old miller's daughter from the town of Lourdes in southern France. From 11 February to 16 July 1858, she reported 18 apparitions of "a Lady". The intaglio replicates the most iconic Lourdes apparition scene & along one side is "N.D. de Lourdes".
