Enameled both front & back, inky coal black enamel adorns the eight-pointed tips next to the four pale lilac colored amethysts. It also enlivens the center around the tranquil & beautifully faceted aquamarine. Utterly charming, the design with orbs of gold, tapered flares of gold, & intricate gold & enamel work, is far from the norm. Its creation date spans the transition from the Georgian into the Victorian era. This small brooch packs a visual punch with its careful design. Weighty for its size, this was created in 18k yellow gold, the later brooch fittings in 14k. Date: Circa 1840-50. Measurements: Length & width of 1 3/8 inches. Weight of 10.6 grams.
