The top side of the leaf is deep green, & the underside is a deep red-purple. Often also grown as an ornamental accent in the garden & traditionally cooked with seafood. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow by broadcasting seeds in late spring/summer after the last frost, in a warm, sunny location. Seeds need light to germinate, so cover them with a thin soil layer. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. The plant is heat tolerant & prefers full sun to light shade. Use in shrimp & fish dishes, banh tom, thit heo nau ya ba ba, & pickling.
