Prairie Fens are a globally rare natural community that provides critically important habitat for many plants & animals & significantly contributes to biodiversity of the upper Great Lakes region. Because of the adaptations required to survive in the wet, calcareous conditions that characterize prairie fens, this community supports a unique assemblage of species.
