Soter, is named after Soteria, Greek goddess of deliverance & preservation from harm. This ring represents my personal take on an evil eye talisman & serves as a charm for protection. The symbol of the evil eye, revered for its protective powers in ancient times, continues to hold major cultural significance in many parts of the world. The belief holds that the envy or jealousy of another person can manifest as a powerful, malevolent gaze that can harm its intended target. To protect against the evil eye, people often use various symbols, such as the evil eye bead or talisman, which are believed to deflect the evil gaze & protect the wearer from harm. Soter features a prominent wreath symbolizing Soteria as she embraces the evil eye, & is further accentuated by the addition of Mykonos beads (an ancient charm of luck) at the base, binding the wreath together. The iris of the eye is adorned with a Greek meander relief that features irregular fracturing at its center to represent the unique striations of the human eye. Beneath the eye, lies a geometric rendering of the structure of the eye paying homage to the ancient Grecian mathematicians, the creators of geometry. A quote from the Odyssey, inscribed in original Ancient Greek script, encircles the ring, serving as a constant reminder of one's resilience in difficult times. It roughly translates to "Endure, my heart. You once endured something even more dreadful".
