This ring would be a great gift for a history fan or a lover of the Southwest! This ring is made from a vintage sterling silver spoon, 925, nickel-free. As these are antique items, there may be minor wear & tear from its past life. Some rings may have engravings or markings. We do not offer any customization or marking removal at this time. Spoon rings originated in 17th-century England. in those days, flatware was highly prized as it was made from solid silver & highly stylized & decorated in an heirloom manner. Popular lore explains that servants, unable to afford to buy 'proper' engagement rings would steal a flatware piece from their master's home. They would shape it into a ring & give it to their beloved for a marriage proposal. Thus, the earliest spoon rings served as symbols of love & commitment, in defiance of strict social & economic barriers.
