Sometimes, even the same scud can change colors depending on the season! The highly visible segments along the abdomen are one of the distinguishing features of the scud, which can also vary in length from perhaps 1/8" to almost 3/4" in length! Since there are over 90 species of scuds in North America & they can vary in color, size & shape (they kinda curl-up when in trouble) this Rainbow Scud is a proven winner! Tied on a dark nickel barbless hook with multiple wraps of weighted wire to get down to where the monster trout live! Sow bugs (also called cress bugs) are not the same as scuds .... but have a similar appearance in the water. This particular Rainbow Scud is a respectable imitation of the (less prevalent) Cress Bug as well!
