Description
Patience is one of my one of a kind cloth dolls, made here in my studio. Her linen body is stuffed with wool & painted from head to toe with layers of gesso & paint. She has a full head of dark brown wool hair, permanently styled to fit (mostly) under her cap. From the skin outward, each article of clothing is a hand sewn reproduction, based on full sized period artifacts and/or patterns. She wears a simple shift, an 18th century style shortgown, a multicolored stripe patterned cotton petticoat, an indigo & white checked bib apron & a ruffled linen day cap. The two articles of clothing that are NOT included in this listing are the handmade straw hat & the nightcap shown in the last 2 photos. Her feet are suitable for stockings & shoes, but she doesn't wear any at this time. She is dressed the way a mid-18th century housewife might be for everyday activity in simple, practical clothes that allow her to tend her garden, kitchen & children, make or mend clothes for her family, & otherwise oversee her small household. Her cloth body is quite flexible, which means it cannot be easily damaged. Although she is unable to stand without support, she can sit comfortably in a chair. Her clothing is completely removable, with the gown held in place with a few stitches at the front & all the other garments secured with drawstrings and/or ties. You could enlarge her wardrobe to include other garments, such as a shawl or cloak, another gown or short gown & petticoat, some shoes, a hat, etc. If you don't want to make everything yourself, be sure to check our store for garments to purchase. Even though dolls have been played with by children since the beginning of time, child safety concerns of our time suggests that our dolls & their clothing have enough small parts to render them unsuitable for children younger than 9 years old.
