Antique Thai Style Standing Bronze Brahma Statue - 76cm/30" Measurements Height 76cm/30" An antique Thai style bronze Brahma sculpture. Brahma is the Hindu God of Creation & one of the Trimurti, the others being Vishnu & Shiva. Brahma's four faces look North, South, East & West. The Brahma is stood samabhanga on a round lotus petal pedestal which is itself stood on a decorated pedestal. The lotus flower represents purity, compassion & the giving of great joy to all. His hands hold a variety of items including a lotus bud, Fan & Mandala. His lower left hand is held in a gesture of teaching. His lower right hand holds a Kalasha. The kalasha is considered a symbol of abundance & "source of life" in the Vedas. It is referred to as "overflowing full vase" in the Vedas. The Kalasha is believed to contain amrita, the elixir of life, & thus is viewed as a symbol of abundance, wisdom, & immortality. He wears a richly bejewelled dohti & upavita. His face has a downcast gaze. Upon his head he wears a decorative Thai style tiara in front of his Kirita-Makuta or tall conical crown. This symbolises control over Positive & Negative attitudes. On his forehead he has a third eye or urna. He has an aquiline nose & elongated earlobes with large ear rings. The sculpture has a wonderful verdigris patina.
