Description
A 150-year-old mourning locket with a gathered lock of chestnut brown hair tied & trimmed in gold thread. The oval locket is 10K gold with a machined verso & face. The face is further hand engraved with a garter motif - a symbol of binding love & loyalty - & the initials "W.R.Y." The locket opens to a pristine interior. The main compartment holds a locket of hair against a blue silk background, lovingly tied & trimmed in twisted gold thread. Original glass & fitted rings. The lid of the locket is engraved with the date, April 24th, 1870. I imagine that the person honored by this memento was still quite young when he/she passed, as the hair shows no signs of grey.
