This painting on wood panel retablo is by New Mexican santera, Irene Martinez Yates. It depicts the hermit saint, San Geronimo, or St. Jerome, with his lion companion. Irene Martinez Yates (1940 - 2011), is a listed artist in New Mexico & is known for her charming & colorful retablos. This particular retablo is signed in pencil by the artist herself & even features a printed biography pasted on the back of the retablo. The retablo measures 10" high x 8" wide, & .5" deep.
