To combat this week's Texas heatwave I've been painting the ocean - deep blue water, ocean waves breaking on a sandy beach, a peaceful fleet of stingrays gracefully suspended in the beautiful blue depths . . . this 9" x 12" original watercolor painting of a critically endangered small tooth sawtooth peacefully lurking in shallow coastal ocean waters was inspired by an instagram reel posted by @singlefinphoto. The clear blue-green waters reveal a sunken wall & a rocky landscape under the surface - & the profile of the sawtooth captured from above, minding its own business as if spotting this Pristis pectinata (a closer relative to the ray than than the shark, oddly enough) isn't incredibly rare! For a West Texas prairie girl like me, instagram reveals whole new worlds of interest & location! Size: 9" x 12" on 140 lb cold press watercolor paper Signed & dated by the artist. I used a combination of watercolor, acrylic paints, chalk, & color pencil on 140 lb cold press watercolor paper for this painting. It's finished with a couple of layers of clear archival spray varnish in a matte finish, which sets & protects the layers of color. Includes raw edges of approximately 1/4" all around which is visible in the listed images & included in the listed dimensions. These raw edges can easily be covered by matting during the framing process. As an original watercolor on paper, the materials used are fragile & if not handled with great care, can be damaged or torn!
