BULK DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE (details below) Syracuse China got its start in 1841, like most pottery companies, making stoneware consumer products. They had limited success for a few decades, changing names a few times while growing the ceramic side of their business. Their big breakthrough came in 1886 when they developed a high-fired china that was resistant to crazing. Their discovery was so good that they were the first American company to guarantee their product from crazing. Where most companies were going after the consumer market, Syracuse went after the hotel & railroad industries with their vitreous china around the turn of the century. China pieces were designed with narrow bodies to serve in the cramped space of railroad cards but were thick & durable to withstand constant movement & everyday use. This very durable china would be what we call restaurantware today. Many years later Syracuse officially adopted the Syracuse name (they were previously known as Onondaga China) after their most popular dinnerware line. This is a Cantina Red bread or dessert plate which was a line they produced in the 90s. It has both an authentic 90s feel to it while also feeling art deco to me. These plates needed to withstand daily use with multiple cycles of plating, serving, beaten eaten off of, cleared & cleaned. Homes with a large family or precocious children might appreciate the durability of restaurantware & these are more aesthetically pleasing than most. These plates are also New Old Stock (NOS). If you're not familiar with that term it means these come from old inventory (items that are no longer produced) that was never used. I obtained several boxes of these, & while the boxes were opened, probably to confirm that what was on the outside of the box was what was on the inside, all the plates are still inside with corrugated inserts in between. I will discount bulk quantity purchases (six or more would be
