Mary Darter Coleman (American, 1893-1956) Texas / California hill country landscape. 16" x 20" painting in a 21" x 25" frame. Obviously an early work by this artist found in Austin TX , To me it looks like it's from the 1920's at the latest, possibly before she moved to California. No restorations or significant issues. Mary Suehanna Darter Coleman was born in Fort Worth, TX on Nov. 16, 1893. Mary Darter graduated from Texas Christian University & then studied at the Art Students League in New York City under Bridgman, Mora, & Carlson. From New York she returned to Texas as an art instructor at Midland College, Texas Christian University, & Phillips University in Oklahoma. After her marriage to painter Harvey B. Coleman in 1925, she settled in Los Angeles. Among those with whom she further studied are Edgar Payne & Jack W. Smith. Mrs. Coleman died in Los Angeles on Dec. 17, 1956.
