This is the highest quality paper I use & feels wonderful in my hands & looks just as good! The first dark, grey blue collage was printed & allowed to dry before the second layer with the large Clarendon numbers was printed in beautiful Rubine Red, made slightly transparent to create some lovely overlapped spaces. The hand letterpress printing process lends itself to variation & that is one of the reasons I love this process, every piece is unique! ➽ WHY I LOVE LETTERPRESS PRINTING Letterpress prints give an affordable way to buy a genuine, original work of art either for yourself or as a unique gift! & letterpress decor can also be a great conversation piece - a way of introducing others to this art form from the invention of printing - my prints are crafted using the same basic techniques as those very first movable type prints from the 1400s! Letterpress printing is a historic, artisan was introduced to Europe by Johannes Gutenberg around the year 1450. This printing method used small, cast pieces of metal for each letter which are locked into a layout, inked, & pressed onto paper. This process launched the spread of literature in Europe & ultimately formed the foundation for modern graphic design. Contemporary letterpress is valued for its handmade & visually distinct, tactile qualities from the analog process. Letterpress requires careful attention throughout, but I love this slow, meditative design process. I find joy in the ritual of making. Indentions from the printing blocks (a popular hallmark of letterpress printing), slight differences in ink application, or other variations are charming evidence of the hand-printing process. Your print is not "perfectly" digitally printed but instead an artifact of a hand-made artisan craft. Some inked areas may remain mildly tacky for a time, particularly in overlapping ink spaces.
