Description
Boulder opal pendant! I hand cut & polished a special Australian Boulder opal cabochon. I obtain opal rough rock from Australia & hand select & cut my stones. Boulder opal is typically precious opal that has formed within the fissures of a host rock. in this case there is color flash throughout in red, blue green & yellow but most prominent at the tip. Precious opal is embedded within an ironstone matrix. Set open backed so you can also see the back of the stone. Set in a unique sterling silver form I fabricated from heavy sheet & an original flourish from the Art Deco period. No chain is included. The substantial opal is 16 x 25 mm. Boulder opal is not best sold by weight since the percentage of the stone that is precious opal is highly variable. There are internal fractures that are inclusions of the stone & do not penetrate throughout. The pendant is 20 mm wide & 54 mm long including the bail.
