Tanna Kasimir-Hoernes (Austrian 1887-1972) "Central Park - New York City" Color Etching, c. 1930, Edition 250, Signed in Pencil Framed, Very Good Condition Archival Frame Size: 22 1/2 x 18 1/2" (57.2 x 46.2 cm) Plate Size: 15 1/2 x 11 3/4" (39.2 x 29.7 cm) JOHANNA KASIMIR-HOERNES (1887 - 1972) Painter, etcher, & graphic designer Johanna (Tanna) Hoernes was born in Graz, Austria. She studied at the School for Women & Girls with Ludwig Michalek & at the Vienna Academy of Art with Wilhelm Unger, where she met her future husband, Luigi Kasimir. They were married in 1911 & worked collaboratively to develop the revolutionary technique of color etching. Each produced a substantial body of work, consisting largely of views based on their worlwide travels. Her work is highly prized for its exacting detail & realistic depiction of both the notable architectural subjects & natural landscapes that she & her husband observed in their travels.
