Condition : Vintage Condition Origin : 100% MADE in JAPAN Material : Iron & Brass Age : Showa Dimension : approx H27cm x W 20m x D22cm (10.62inch x 7.87inch x 8.66inch) Takaoka copperware Takaoka copperware begins with the history that Maeda Toshinori who was a leader of the second generation Kaga clan (present Ishikawa prefecture) opened a foundry in current Kanayamachi, Takaoka city as a part of the industrial policies to prosper a castle town along with the Takaoka castle construction,and it has reached to present times through many transitions. Although agricultural tools such as the plow, the hoe & everyday products including pots, kettles by iron casting were their main products,the demand for gold casting (copper alloy casting) increased along with life standards & social improvements in the middle of the Edo era. Especially, Buddhist equipment became popular not only in temples but also in general households. Also during the Meiji & Taisho era, they got busier to produce braziers, bowls, tea ceremony equipment, ornaments, etc., & they are designated as Japan's first "traditional craft goods production area" in 1975, the time of Showa. Additionally, after the artistic value of Takaoka copperware is acknowledged at the Austria Vienna World Exposition & the Paris World Exposition in the Meiji era, the elegant patterns & flowing shapes received high praise & they have established a stable position as exported goods. Nowadays, they produce products that meet with social needs due to their prolonged tradition, achievements & excellent gold goods craftsmen, & in recent years, they work on creating massive bronze statues, & the bronze statue of a famous writer raised the name recognition of Takaoka Copperware. They have reached the present age through those periods of times. Even in the modern era since its inception about 400 years ago, they produce a broad range of products as the sole producer for copper castings in Japan.
