A wonderful vintage Arturo Toscanini bronze tribute / portrait medallion from the 1950's. Made by Medallic Art Co. New York, stamped on the side. Heavy solid bronze. Arturo Toscanini (Born in Italy) 1867-1957 was one of the most acclaimed & influential musicians of the 19th century. Renowned for his intensity, his perfectionism, his ear for orchestral detail & sonority & his eidetic memory. For a time was the music director of La Scala in Milan & the New York Philharmonic. Later the 1st music director of the NBC Symphony Orchestra 1937-1954. Because of this he became a household name in the USA. Simply was a musical genius. This medallion was issued in 1952 with an incised facsimile signature of Toscanini. Measures at approx. 2.6 inches in diameter. Beautifully detailed by the artist Leonard Bistolfi. Shows a bit of age as seen in photos, remains in good condition. If you love classical music & collect music memorabilia, then this medallion would be a great addition. A handsome vintage piece.
