Description
This is a large original calligraphy of Japanese characters of 侘寂 - Wabi-sabi. Size: 34½ × 65 cm (13¾ × 26 inches) in traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi is a concept centered on the acceptance of imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of appreciating beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, & incomplete" in nature. It is prevalent throughout all forms of Japanese art. It is a concept derived from the Buddhist teaching of the three marks of existence, specifically impermanence, suffering & emptiness. Characteristics of wabi-sabi aesthetics & principles include asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy, & the appreciation of both natural objects & the forces of nature. This calligraphy is hand written on raw unbleached rice paper in Japanese ink. The finished work has my personal stamp imprint, as well as "Zen" & "Harmony" stamps also carved by myself.
