Description

This is a coin changer that came from the estate of a man who worked as a bus driver. It was made by the Johnson Fare Box Co. of Chicago & has the patent number of 1465409, issued in 1923, stamped on the top. It is a 3 barrel coin changer accepting quarters, dimes & nickels & works perfectly. To keep it safe while in service, each side has a hook that could hang on the driver's belt, also in perfect working condition. The top is marked with the manufacturer's name & Chicago, as well as the patent number. It is 4 1/2" tall & and 5" with the belt hooks folded flat against the mechanism & weighs 1 lb. 6 oz. This piece was definitely used as there are fine scratches in the nickel plated finish & a bit of corrosion here & there. It is a cool relic of mid century technology. Streetcar & bus memorabilia.
