This vintage silk meisen haori is in crisp, ready to wear condition. The haori, from the 1930s-1940s, was last dry cleaned. The raging purple & red waves standout against a silver/soft gray background. The haori is a rare Size XS/Small. Length: 36.25" / 92 cm Sleeve Depth: 25" / 64 cm Back Width (Pit to Pit): 23.75" / 60 cm Condition: Very Good. Ready to wear. Note: There are some faint spots on the front & back of the right sleeve & on the body. (See pictures.) There are no conspicuous stains, & no tears or odors. Item # HM-0716-D Meisen kimonos, with their bold colors & creative designs, were a sensation in Japan when they were first introduced at low prices in the 1920s. The inventors of meisen found a way to use damaged cocoons that were being discarded as worthless & utilize stencil designs for mass fabric production. The designers turned to the international art scene for inspiration, as well as playing off traditional Japanese motifs in new ways. The kimono patterns copied the look of hand-woven splash or kasuri designs.
