Description

A very stylish (and really heavy!) designer piece. Created by Lars Andersson for Avesta Jernverk (ironworks) in the 1950s. The style is very Nordic & can be roughly described as the Atomic Age meets cave paintings :) 11.5 cm x 10.5 cm x 1.8 cm. Weight 700 grams. Nice vintage condition. Lars Andersson (1910-2005) was a Swedish sculptor. He studied in several art & sculpting schools in Sweden, as well as the Art Academy in Stockholm (1932-1936). He also studied at the Swedish Museum of Natural History (Stockholm) & the zoological department of the Helsingfors university. in 1944, Andersson was employed by Avesta Ironworks to create art in stainless steel. He stayed there until 1976 & mostly made big sculptures. Birds & animals were Andersson's favourite motif. There is a bison park in Avesta, so understandably, the artist made several pieces depicting these mighty animals. There is a giant statue, the Wisent, made of stainless steel in 1976 that stands in the city hall park in Avesta. It is a portrait of the bison called Pudam who came to Avesta bison park in 1969. A stainless steel copy of it was erected in 1996 at Avesta Sheffield's facility at Shepcote Lane in Sheffield, UK.
