As I became intimately familiar with all of the artifacts we displayed, certain pieces stood out for their unusual beauty despite their utilitarian uses. This wooden mortar & pestle, part of the apothecary exhibit, had such a deep, rich patina & texture...it was just begging to be immortalized. I wanted to convey the heaviness of the piece, so I let the dark wood speak for itself.
