Coneheads is a 1993 American comic science-fiction film from Paramount Pictures, produced by Lorne Michaels, directed by Steve Barron, & starring Dan Aykroyd, Jane Curtin & Michelle Burke. The film is based on the NBC Saturday Night Live comedy sketches about aliens stranded on Earth, who have Anglicized their Remulakian surname to "Conehead". Michelle Burke took over the role played by Laraine Newman on SNL. The film also features roles & cameos by actors & comedians from television series of the time. Daniel Edward Aykroyd, cm OOnt (born July 1, 1952) is a Canadian actor, producer, comedian, musician, & filmmaker who was an original member of the "Not Ready for Prime Time Players" on Saturday Night Live (1975-1979). A musical sketch he performed with John Belushi on SNL, the Blues Brothers, turned into an actual performing band & then the 1980 film The Blues Brothers. He conceived & starred in Ghostbusters (1984), which spawned a sequel & eventually an entire media franchise. in 1990, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in the 1989 film Driving Miss Daisy. He starred in his own sitcom, Soul Man (1997-1998). Aykroyd is also a businessman, having co-founded the House of Blues chain of music venues & the Crystal Head Vodka brand.
