Saint George Orthodox icon Available in 2 Sizes: Medium size - 10cm x 13.5cm / 3.93inches x 5.31inches Large size - 12cm x 16.5cm / 4.72inches x 6.49inches All icons are made of MDF wood (solid pressed wood). Once the base is cut to size, it undergoes a preparation by hand so the surface of the wood is well-prepared to hold the mounted print. Our theme prints are high quality replicas of an original hierography. Finally, finishing touches are applied with a dark brown color around the icon borders & backside. Each icon is inspected for quality assurance. Feast Day- April 23 Patronage- England (and other countries) The Holy Great Martyr George the Victory-Bearer, was a native of Cappadocia (a district in Asia Minor), & he grew up in a deeply believing Christian family. His father was martyred for Christ when George was still a child. His mother, owning lands in Palestine, moved there with her son & raised him in strict piety. When he became a man, Saint George entered into the service of the Roman army. He was handsome, brave & valiant in battle, & he came to the notice of the emperor Diocletian (284-305) & joined the imperial guard with the rank of comites, or military commander. The veneration of Saint George enjoyed enormous popularity throughout the Christian world, both East & West. He was chosen to be the protector of countries like Georgia & England; thousands of churches have been dedicated to him & every Christian soul sees in him the incarnation of the virtues of valor, patience in affliction & trust in the help of grace that Christ, the Leader in battle, has enjoined on all the soldiers enrolled in His army of devotion.
