I haven't been home to the gateway of the North Maine woods for many, many years now. It started out as a trauma thing, but it became a distance/practicality thing until it became a trauma thing again & now it's a financially feasible thing. BUT! I can revisit my very favorite spots that have me so homesick lately & one such spot is my favorite town in Northern Maine - Portage Lake. We visited Portage for fresh water when I was little. We also flew with my uncle Welman who had a float plane on the lake. Turning upside down over Portage Lake was an absolute thrill for me as a kid. (And I almost threw up). in 8th grade we got to live in a family friend's place right on the lake for the Winter & Spring & it was heaven. I remember working on my Maine studies notebook for History class (got an A & looking out at the lake as I researched Maine lighthouses, lakes, parks, & more as the loon calls echoed in the distance. I have painted this with ink & acrylics with a colorful bubble design throughout the image playing off the black linework to give just a slightly more funky/abstract feel to my usual style. I really enjoy combining my love for nature with my comic book style linework. The giclee print measures 5x7 & has a black 8x10 matt board.
