1681 chart measuring the Eclipse of the Moon, by Sir Jonas Moore from his publication A New System of Mathematics, considered a definitive work of navigational mathematics for its time. This chart presents with some browning, two short rips on the right hand edge approximately 3/4 inch in length. No loss. Approximately 9x7 inches. Sir Jonas Moore, FRS was an English mathematician, surveyor, ordnance officer, & patron of astronomy. He took part in two of the most ambitious English civil engineering projects of the 17th century, draining the Great Level of the Fens & building the Mole at Tangier. in later life, his wealth & influence as Surveyor General of the Ordnance enabled him to become a patron & driving force behind the establishment of the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. This rare & beautiful chart is ready for a mat & frame, & would be beautiful in any study, office, or as a handsome neutral accent in nearly any room. This is a true period 17th century antique object, not a modern or later copy.
