Antique Japanese Hand-Carved Wood Okimono Three Karako Children's Day Celebration Kodomo-no-hi Circa: Meiji, early 1900s' Largest: H 4 in.(10cm), W 3.5 in.(9cm), D 2.5 in.(6cm) Wood Pedestal: H 14 in.(35cm), W 7 in.(18cm), D 2.5 in.(6cm) Aged condition, o.a. very good! Three Karako children, drumming & turning around in playful aerobic, apparently celebrating the Children's Day known as Kodomo no hi 子供の日. The set is hand-carved traditionally with high levels of depth & breadth. The children's faces are realistic with double inlay eyes, nearly mirroring one another in their charms & countenances. All three boys are cloaked in children's kimonos with unique textile designs on their collars & bibs. The set has a flowing rhythm continuity allowing arrangement above a burlwood pedestal freely.
