Minna Wright Citron (American 1896-1991) "Demonstration". AKA "Hope Springs Eternal" Lithograph, 1933, Signed in pencil by the artists & also by Will Goldberg, Citron's printer. Archival Mat Size: 20 x 16" (50.8 x 40.7 cm) Image Size: 11 1/2 x 8 1/2" (29.2 x 21.3 cm) Paper Size: 15 3/4 x 11 1/2" (40 x 29 cm) Print is in Excellent condition! The print depicts a group of women crowding the cosmetics counter at the old S. Klein department store on Union Square in New York City. Minna Citron was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1896. As a married mother of two she decided to take up painting first, studying with Benjamin Kopman at the Brooklyn Institute of Arts & Sciences before going to the New York School of Applied Design, & finally the Arts Students League in 1928. There she studied with Kenneth Hayes Miller. Her fellow students & friends included Reginald Marsh, Rafael Soyer & Isabel Bishop. Citron learned printmaking during the early 1930's & expanded her study of the process under Stanly William Hayter at Atelier 17 in New York City later in the decade. She was also involved with the WPA, Federal Art Project in New York City. Her work was extensively exhibited in during her lifetime & she is in the collections of many prominent museums.
