The clips themselves are large, high quality, sturdy French-style metal barrette clips with tension bar. The leather is very securely attached to the clip with metal rivets that will be nearly impossible to remove. Please note that you will not be receiving the exact item seen in the photographs, but one that is extremely similar. My products are made by hand using natural materials, so there is some variation from piece to piece, but don't worry, all barrettes I ship are very similar to and, of course, just as beautiful as the ones you are looking at! Sustainability statement I am committed to using the most sustainable materials possible in my products, packaging & shipping. Leather for barrettes & earrings is all up-cycled scrap leather, referred to as "pre-consumer waste," diverting waste from other makers & maximizing the use of these already biodegradable hides. All leather sourced for scrap is vegetable-tanned & a byproduct of meat production, never farmed explicitly for leather. Vegetable tanning refers to the curing process of leather, in this case, using plant materials, as opposed to cheaper & less-sustainable chrome or other chemical tanning, & the resulting material is also more readily biodegradable.
