I'm delighted to present a natural formation of Scolecite in its host rock. This specimen is from the Malegaon Mines, Nasik District, Maharashtra, India. These raw pieces are simply amazing. The tiny needles are so very delicate. You'll have to be extra careful with this one. There are innumerable sparkling little needles emerging from a cavity in the host rock. To think of this delicate creation forming beneath the Earth puts me in awe of Nature's power. This piece would be gorgeous in a display cabinet under a good light, It weighs 8.6 ounces & measures 2.6 x 2.7". Please note: These are natural crystals, unpolished & untreated. Jody SCOLECITE Scolecite is a hydrous calcium aluminum silicate that is a member of the Zeolite family. It is a secondary crystal that forms in the cavities of basalt, granite, & syenites. The mineral was first reported in 1813 by A.F. Gehlan & J.N. Fuchs in Germany, & was named for the Greek word meaning "worm". This was referring to the stones tendency to curl when heated with a blowtorch. Scolecite is formed in slender prismatic crystals & is also found in abundance in large masses. It ranges in color from white, pink, purple, yellow, & red to even colorless. Scolecite can be found in very rare crystal forms in Iceland & very few parts of India, but can be found in masses all across the globe including USA, Europe, & Africa. Scolecite is the stone of "inner peace", & will be the perfect remedy for anyone looking to relax, especially after a long day.
